Susanna B. Murphy founded Campus Investigations, LLC after approximately seventeen years with the Committee for Public Counsel Services, the public defender’s office of Massachusetts. As founder of Campus Investigations, LLC, Ms. Murphy conducts a range of investigative services including independent investigations of alleged sexual misconduct and other alleged inappropriate activity on college and university campuses, criminal defense investigations of all levels of complexity, domestic relations investigations, workers compensation surveillance, background investigations and recovering lost property.
Ms. Murphy is committed to the fair and impartial discovery and review of facts revealed in her investigations. Having interviewed many hundreds of witnesses of all ages in a variety of matters, she has developed a keen ability to assess credibility while maintaining objectivity.
After graduating from Swarthmore College with a degree in Political Science (1990) and the University of Maryland School of Law (1993) with a Juris Doctorate, Ms. Murphy began her professional career in 1993 as a full-time public defender with the Suffolk County Superior Court Office of the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) and eventually in the Norfolk County courts of Massachusetts. In that role, Ms. Murphy represented hundreds of indigent defendants charged with a variety of crimes, primarily in the superior courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
In 2002, Ms. Murphy shifted her focus to the investigations of criminal matters, both in the private sector and with the public defender’s office. In 2003, she became the first Chief Investigator with CPCS, overseeing a staff of over 50 investigators. She created policy and training for the investigators of the Massachusetts public defender system with a focus on creating and maintaining the highest ethical standards and objectivity in investigations.
Ms. Murphy has lectured and critiqued at Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education on a variety of topics, including presenting at the "Trying Sex Offense Cases" Program on the topic of Investigating Sexual Assault Cases. She also served as a staff attorney with the training unit of CPCS.
She is a Massachusetts Licensed Private Detective, a member of the LPDAM, and member of both the Massachusetts and Maryland Bars. She is fluent in the language and most recent requirements of the Clery Act and Title IX.
